Liberty Village/Manhattan Beach Heights Real Estate and Neighborhood Guide

Known for its quiet streets, larger size lots with deep setbacks, and charming, older homes, Liberty Village/Manhattan Beach Heights is one of Manhattan Beach’s oldest neighborhoods, and is made up of mostly single-family homes, some townhouses, and a few condominiums, making it a great place for families and young professionals alike. The neighborhood is mostly free of HOA communities, except for townhomes and condominiums.
The location of Liberty Village is ideal for those who want to live near the beach but have easy access to freeways and commuter park/ride facilities. The neighborhood is a short drive to the beach and the famous Manhattan Beach Pier, although many residents will ride their bikes or even walk to the beach, so you still have easy access to the amenities that come with living near the ocean, such as swimming, sunbathing, and beach volleyball. Additionally, the area is close to the South Bay Galleria, a popular shopping center that offers a wide variety of stores, restaurants, and entertainment options, and Manhattan Beach’s own Manhattan Village Mall.

Another perk of living in Liberty Village is the proximity to great schools. The neighborhood is located within the Manhattan Beach Unified School District, which is known for its excellent schools. There are several elementary, middle, and high schools in the area, including Meadows Elementary, Pacific Elementary School, and Manhattan Beach Middle School. Manhattan Beach’s own Mira Costa High School is a short drive south of the community.
While older, many of the homes in Liberty Village have been well-maintained and have retained their original character and charm. Because of the larger lots, some buyers have opted to tear down the original smaller homes, and rebuild a larger home on the same lot, although sacrificing some of the lot size. Many of the original homes are single story California bungalows, perfect for retirees or those looking for the ease of single story living near the coast.
Liberty Village/Manhattan Beach Heights is also close to the downtown area of Manhattan Beach, where you’ll find a variety of locally owned shops, restaurants, and bars. It is a great place to go for a night out or to shop for unique and local goods. The downtown area also has a farmers market on Sundays, where residents can purchase fresh produce, flowers, and other goods.

Nearby Polliwog Park, voted one of the best parks in LA County for outdoor birthday parties, is the main draw for outdoor activities, including Begg Pool, Manhattan Beach Botanical Garden, plenty of playground areas, and a small wildlife refuge, perfect for bird watching! The park has a variety of gazebos for planned activities and an amphitheater for concerts and entertainment.

Liberty Village/Manhattan Beach Heights is the perfect location for residents who need to be close to freeways and transportation, yet still want to enjoy a smaller community feel with easy beach access. Minutes from freeway onramps and the Green Line park-n-ride, the area offers an easier commute than the coastal neighborhoods west of PCH.

Being an older community with smaller homes, Liberty Village/Manhattan Beach Heights offers true entry-level prices for Manhattan Beach with original, smaller homes, even some updated homes, pricing in the mid $1 millions. While pricing can be somewhat similar to Manhattan Village, the lack of an HOA and HOA fees may make Liberty Village/Manhattan Beach Heights more attractive to some home buyers.
